Museum-minded textile enthusiast
Catie Higgins is an emerging textile scholar based in Washington, DC, whose research focuses on museum practice, material culture, and textile history, with particular interest in textiles of the Islamic world. She is currently an MA student in Art & Museum Studies at Georgetown University and holds a BA in Art History from Oberlin College. Her professional experience spans both the public museum sector and the private auction and advisory world, including work in the Decorative Arts department at Christie’s in New York. Higgins’s experience is grounded in curatorial practice, complemented by work in collections care, archival processing, and educational settings. Currently, Catie is interning at the International Quilt Museum in Lincoln, Nebraska, as a curatorial and collections intern, contributing to the documentation and preservation of the world’s largest publicly held quilt collection. A knitter and novice weaver herself, her scholarship is informed by hands-on making and a sustained engagement with the material, technical, and cultural histories of textiles.
