About me
Biography
Corre-Pé is a Portuguese visual artist whose work explores the relationship between memory, culture, and contemporary society through a distinctive pictorial language. He has developed a visual identity defined by the expressive use of primary colours, the balance between abstraction and figuration, and symbolic compositions that invite personal interpretation rather than offering fixed narratives.
Every painting begins with writing. Before approaching the canvas, Corre-Pé develops ideas through notes, memories, conversations, and observations drawn from everyday life. These texts are not scripts for the final work but the conceptual foundation from which each painting evolves. Working directly on the canvas, he rarely produces preparatory sketches, allowing intuition, experimentation, and the creative process itself to shape the final composition.
Portuguese culture is a constant presence in his work. Traditions, rituals, symbols, and collective memory are reinterpreted through a contemporary visual language, transforming familiar references into new narratives that connect the personal with the universal.
Corre-Pé describes his artistic approach as Contemporary Social Art—a personal definition of a practice in which painting becomes a space for dialogue between memory, identity, culture, and society. Rather than illustrating reality, his work seeks to reinterpret it, encouraging viewers to engage with each artwork through their own experiences and perspectives.
His work has been presented in solo and group exhibitions in Portugal and internationally, reflecting an independent artistic practice developed with consistency and a clear artistic identity. Through painting, Corre-Pé continues to explore how images can preserve memory, question the present, and create meaningful connections between people, culture, and time.
