Inspired by nature, embodied in modern techniques.
Continuing the traditions of Impressionism, my art lives in metamodernism: it demands dialogue, presence, and your gaze, my viewer.
Elena Gozunova, 44 years old.
As a professional metallurgical engineer and aspiring artist, I began my creative journey in 2023 as a way to escape, to find escapism, from the harsh, male-dominated world of metallurgy and numbers in which I lived.
In my work, I explore the ideas of impressionism as an attempt to capture the elusive beauty of nature, capturing peace and tranquility in semi-abstract landscapes, despite the modern urban world around us, with its technological complexity and the ever-accelerating pace of modern life.
In my work, I use two mediums: textured painting and alcohol ink. These mediums help depict the duality and diversity of nature – the roughness and volume of the Earth element are conveyed through textured paintings and the use of natural elements (stones, shells, sand, tree bark). Alcohol ink helps convey the smoothness and fluidity of the Water element and the airiness of the Air and Fire elements. The plot in my paintings often remains unspoken, semi-abstract, inviting the viewer to become a participant and see something of their own.
