My vibe
I explore memory as an invisible connective force between people, places, and materials. Through graphite, charcoal, and pigment, I create layered fields of memory. Black • White • Cobalt Bright.
About me
Evija Freidenfelde is a Latvian contemporary artist, printmaker, painter, draftsman, and art educator based in Riga, Latvia. Her artistic practice combines drawing, painting, printmaking, mixed media, and installation, exploring memory, materiality, urban experience, and the relationships between people, places, and environments.
Freidenfelde holds Master's degrees in both Natural Sciences and Law and later graduated from the Art Academy of Latvia, specializing in printmaking and drawing. This interdisciplinary background informs her research-based artistic practice, bringing together visual experimentation and conceptual inquiry.
Working primarily with graphite, charcoal, ink, pigments, and mixed media, she creates layered visual environments in which landscapes, architectural fragments, objects, and materials become carriers of memory. Her recent work focuses on the concept of the Memory Field, exploring traces of memory embedded in people, places, materials, and landscapes.
She is a member of the Latvian Artists’ Union and an active participant in the women artists’ collective ArtPart.
Freidenfelde regularly exhibits in Latvia and internationally. Recent solo exhibitions include “Aspazija in Wonderland” (2026), “Memory Field” (2025), “Urban Déjà Vu” (2025), “Fragile Memories” (2024), and “Dark Ontologies” (2023).
Her work has also been presented in group exhibitions at the Cēsis Museum, Jūrmala City Museum, Sigulda Devon, Bauska Museum, and other cultural institutions.
In 2026, she was nominated for the Jāzeps Pīgoznis Prize for Latvian Landscape Painting, recognizing her contribution to contemporary Latvian art.
Her works are held in private collections in Latvia, the United States, France, Switzerland, Austria, and other countries.
Black - White - Cobalt Bright remains a visual signature throughout her practice, where graphite, charcoal, and pigment create layered fields of memory and perception.
