Explores different cultures' artistic philosophies and expressions, often interpreting these through sequential work, as well as a love of figure and forms.
Fearghal’s work centres around observations of his environment, both external and internal, and deep research. It hinges on a practice of drawing and painting directly from life, which forms a body of work that bigger things grow from.
Projects often involve storytelling, particularly folklore and beliefs from different cultures, although he has a burgeoning abstract practice observing patterns in nature. He has also taken on more journalistic projects recently, in response to the increasingly politically charged world we all live in.
He has many influences, from impressionism and Renaissance drawing to Islamic pattern. The philosophy of Indian sculpture, and it’s approach to the relationship between viewer and art, has been a huge influence that’s pushed his work closer to abstraction.
He uses a broad range of media, most notably drawing, intaglio printmaking, watercolour and sculpture. He is a graduate of Falmouth University, and despite being an early-career artist, has exhibited work in Cornwall, Brighton and London.
