About me

I’m Giampiero Abate, an Italian visual artist working between figurative painting, digital imagery and immersive media. I describe my practice as Contemporary Cosmic Metaphysics: a way of exploring what happens when the human body meets forces it cannot fully see or control.

My work begins with questions about time, cosmology, nature and technology. A black hole, a geometric form or a flame in microgravity may become the starting point for a painting, but I’m drawn to more than their scientific appearance. I’m interested in how they change our sense of scale, identity and place in the universe.

I often develop an image through 3D modelling before translating it into acrylic painting with an airbrush. This process lets me build spaces that feel precise yet uncertain. Human and humanoid figures move through them, sometimes merging with natural or technological forms. They inhabit a world in which transformation is already underway.

In *Æon*, cyclical time and human evolution meet in the image of a figure exposed to the elements. In *Genesi*, the tesseract and a black hole frame an imagined origin. Across these works, I return to a question that has no fixed answer: how do we understand ourselves when science continually expands what we know about reality?

Painting remains at the centre of my practice, while sculpture, video, holography and immersive installations allow its ideas to extend into physical space. I want each work to hold the viewer between recognition and uncertainty, long enough for a familiar image to become strange again.
