Formal abstraction is intuitive thought, does not follow a logical order. It is not grounded in linear reasoning, but in evocation and flow.
“Color can transform Space, Time, and the perception of the Viewer".
The fundamental questions are What and How, which in this research are translated as Color and Form.
To speak of Color as an independent element means recognizing it not merely as a visual component, but as an autonomous, living entity one endowed with its own agency. Color acts within space: it occupies it, reshapes it, transforms it. It exerts a magnetic force, both upon the one who observes and the one who creates. For this very reason, it can sometimes become overwhelming or even aggressive; hence the need to introduce Form something that contains it, regulates its presence, and guides its visual perception. Form becomes a vessel.
It gives direction to content: it leads, modulates, and channels it. It becomes both medium and message. As such, it can be interpreted by a range of “actors” objects, bodies, animals each
assuming different expressive qualities depending on the context.
In this narrative, it is the objects that give shape to Color.
These objects may be two-dimensional or three-dimensional, drawn from everyday life and linked to Pop Culture. Stencils, in particular, play a crucial formal role.
Usually made of paper or plastic materials, these tools originally designed for practical functions in industry or design are here decontextualized and reintroduced into the field of visual art.
Stencils thus become visual matrices: they generate patterns, endlessly repeatable modules that not only contain Color but also leave behind a mnemonic trace of it.
