I explore the personal, cultural, and mythological narratives, as an expansive reflection on South America, nature and the human condition.
The work is characterised by the use of bold colours and imagined figures. The process and compose images from digital archives and memory, experimenting while sketching with charcoal and painting.
“I’m guided by approaching non-linear and playful ways of critical thinking towards compositions. Coming from a Latin American diasporic context, I’m drawn to invented landscapes and altered visual languages as a way to express dislocation. My paintings are rooted in a search for memory through the body and its relationship to place and presence.”
Through investigating the friction between reality and simulated realities, memory, archive, and folklore, Isabella builds an artistic universe that begins in a narrative style as a point of departure.
