Jacob Weeks is a visual artist exploring absence, loss and transformation through photography, using light, shadow and memory to reflect on change, grief and the traces we leave behind
Jacob Weeks (b. 1989, South East England) is a visual artist working primarily with photography and is the co-founder of Void Collective.
Weeks’s work centres on themes of absence, loss and mourning, exploring how these experiences are often entangled with emotional attachments to the material world. Drawing from personal history and lived experience, Weeks’s practice reflects on transitional phases, moments of change, uncertainty and becoming, where identity and memory are in flux.
Through a subtle interplay of light and shadow, he invites viewers into spaces shaped as much by what is no longer present as by what remains. His images speak quietly but powerfully to the universal human experience of moving through grief, memory and transformation.
Weeks has exhibited widely across the UK and Europe, with work selected by leading institutions including the Royal Academy of Arts, the British Journal of Photography, and FORMAT Festival. His practice has earned recognition through multiple awards, including finalist positions for the Ingram Collection’s Young Contemporary Talent Purchase Prize, the Sunny Art Prize, and most recently the Visual Art Open 2025
Day to day, Weeks balances his creative practice with his role as a tutor and programme director, leading an Art and Design course and supporting young people in their creative development. As both an educator and a father, he is passionate about inspiring the next generation of artists and creating space for emerging voices to thrive.
