About me

“The work of José Sánchez combines technical precision with artistic intuition. Trained as a
telecommunications engineer, he constantly seeks balance between structure and emotion,
calculation and spontaneity.
Since moving to Berlin in 2005, the city has become his main source of inspiration and
experimentation. Its energy, history, and cultural diversity have profoundly shaped his artistic
practice. For Sánchez, Berlin represents transformation, a place where contrasts such as past and
present, order and chaos, intimacy and distance coexist.
The Berlin techno scene, with its rhythm, collective spirit, and industrial aesthetic, has also
become a major influence. Sánchez translates these impulses into his paintings through vibrant
colors, bold lines, and dynamic compositions.
His practice is multidisciplinary, spanning painting, drawing, photography, street art, and
performance. Each medium is an equal means of expression, part of a broader dialogue aimed at
translating urban sensations and emotions into visual form.
In his most recent series, Sánchez explores Berlin as a living organism. Through dense layers of
color, overlaps, and energetic brushstrokes, he creates an emotional cartography of the city, a
room filled with freedom, sound, silence, and memory.
His painting practice moves between gestural abstraction and figurative expression. While his
gestural works emphasize movement and energy, his figurative pieces draw from comics and
contemporary visual culture. In these works, Sánchez uses familiar imagery to explore themes
such as identity, alienation, and belonging - with a sense of irony, empathy, and playfulness.”
