My vibe
Nothing is really inanimate, all is meaningful. I am committed to vital materialism and perceive the agency of "things". At the same time, I am concerned with humanity and question its follies.
About me
Marina Trani is a London-based artist of Italian origin. After spending most of her professional life as a scientist, she transitioned to full-time artistic practice in 2021. She completed a BA in Fine Art in 2024 and an MA in Fine Art at Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London, in 2026.
Marina’s practice is driven by an ongoing effort to reconcile deeply felt contradictions—from negotiating her Italian and British identities to reflecting on human fallibility and responding to the unsettling realities of contemporary geopolitics. Her work explores how material objects, landscapes, and everyday encounters can exceed their functional roles to become repositories of memory, agency, and meaning.
Her projects often begin with familiar entities (objects, domestic spaces, or landscapes) that are reinterpreted as vessels connecting personal and collective histories, past and present. Through close observation and transformation, Marina reveals their capacity to embody lived experience and provoke new ways of seeing. Recurring motifs include traditional family ceramics, a terrace lined with green tiles, and pasta tubes reimagined as viewing devices. These function as both intimate autobiographical references and shared cultural signifiers, inviting viewers to reflect on their own memories and relationships with material culture.
