About me

I am a representational painter working across portraiture, figurative painting and still life. My work is rooted in observation and in the belief that there is something meaningful in taking the time to really look.

I am drawn to quiet, often ordinary moments—a particular expression, a fleeting gesture, the way light falls across a face or an object, or the subtle presence of things we encounter every day. Through painting, I try to slow these moments down and give them space to be noticed.

Working from life whenever possible is central to my practice. I am fascinated by the process of translating what I see into paint: understanding structure and form, responding to colour and light, while allowing the physical act of painting and drawing to remain present in the finished work. I value both careful observation and the unexpected decisions that happen during the making of a painting.

Increasingly, my work has become a way of exploring memory, connection and the passage of time. Personal experiences often provide the starting point, but I am interested in finding something within them that extends beyond the individual—feelings of tenderness, vulnerability, humour, loss and joy that are widely shared.

Ultimately, what drives my work is curiosity and patience in looking: the possibility that by paying closer attention to something familiar, we might see it differently.
