My artistic practice moves through intimate, embodied narratives weaving together care, and belonging within Afro-diasporic and queer contexts.
About me
Naomi Boima is a German/Sierra Leonean multidisciplinary Berlin based artist working across illustration, painting, sculpture, performance and installation. Their practice explores Blackness, intimacy, Queer embodiment, grief, and collective memory through a Black feminist perspective. Boima’s work centers bodies, relationships, and emotional worlds that reflect their own community, creating images and objects that celebrate tenderness, desire, and self-love.
Working between figurative imagery, sculptural forms, and participatory formats, Boima is interested in how visual language can create spaces of recognition, vulnerability and connection. Their practice also engages with themes of mourning, ancestral connection exploring how personal histories and collective experiences can be carried through objects, and images. Through this, their work reflects on questions of belonging, care and resistance outside of a white (cis)heteronormative perspective. Boima is currently pursuing a Master of Fine Arts and Political Science (teaching qualification) at Universität der Künste Berlin and Freie Universität Berlin, after completing a BA in Art Education and Political Science. During their studies, they participated in exchange programs at Chelsea College of Arts in London and at UNA Buenos Aires.
Their work has been exhibited and performed internationally, including in Berlin and London, with recent presentations at Kunstraum Bethanien, Napoleon Complex, New Fears Gallery, Zentrum für Kunst und Urbanistik and Uferstudios. Boima has participated in the queer artist residency Mirror of Creation and the performance artist residency at Ausland Berlin. Alongside their artistic practice, Boima collaborates with cultural and political organizations through illustration, publications, workshops, and community-based projects. Their illustrated prints and postcards are stocked in shops across Berlin(HkW, SheSaid, Vienna and Brussels.
