Charlotte Collier-Hunter is a London-based disabled artist whose work explores the alchemy of materials and the four elements in ceramics. She describes herself as an AuDHD dichotomy, an introverted social wasp and ambushed regularly by an Ehlers-Danlos body. After two decades as a registered nurse, Charlotte embraced her restless creative spirit, slinging mud into fires as a ceramicist.
An early adopter, Charlotte has always pushed boundaries, whether programming on an Atari as a child or embodying her transhumanist values with multiple upgrades and a biohacker mindset. She is a goth (incognito these days) and a world traveller, with two passports and a wealth of experiences from living in New Zealand, Australia, and Europe.
Growing up in New Zealand, her connection to nature and organic forms began early, fostered by a love of painting, poetry, and performance.
After moving back to London in 2018 and facing challenges in transferring her nursing registration, she pivoted to ceramics during lockdown. A week long pottery course led to the founding of Preaface Ceramics, through which Charlotte creates functional bespoke pieces for restaurants and private clients worldwide, as well as sculptural works for exhibitions.
Her practice honours sustainable heritage craft and slow living, with each piece designed to be cherished for generations.
Charlotte’s journey reflects her ethos of living boldly and her ceramic work, much like her life, is a testament to a thousand lives lived unapologetically, always pushing the limits of what’s possible.
