A contemporary artist who fuses culture and technology, using yarns and diverse materials to bring thoughts and ideas to life.
I'm Onyebuchi Present Chinwe, fondly called Present, a visionary textile artist, sign language interpreter, and a multi-talented visual creative.
My practice explores embroidery, tie-dye, printing, souvenirs, interior decor (such as curtains, window blinds, bedspread, pillow cases, throw pillows, rug, table/chair covers, wall hanging etc) with a touch of Ankara and Adire fabric, colour breakage portrait painting and fabric manipulation, using waste fabrics.
I transform textiles into powerful vessels of identity and memory. Through merging traditional African crafts with modern innovations, I create contemporary designs that are both visually striking, functional and socially engaging.
As a dynamic leader who has held several positions and roles, I have extended my creativity beyond the studio, championing education, empowerment, and community engagement. Through exhibitions, workshops, and mentorship, I have inspired and nurtured the next generation of young creatives, encouraging them to find their voice through fabric and thread.
My innovative approach demonstrates that textile art is not merely craft, but a transformative medium of connection, heritage, ideas and imagination.
