About me

Sara Montani was born in 1951 in Milan, where she lives and works.

Since the 90s, she has held several solo exhibitions, receiving recognition and awards. These include the Arte Mondadori Painting Award in 1994 and the National Sculpture Award of Spinetoli (AP) in 2001.

As a member of the Museum of Permanente in Milan, she served on the Annual Art Commission in 2006/2007, 2016/2017, and 2021/2022.
Since 2022, she has been a member of the Board of Directors at the Museum of Permanente in Milan.

Her wide-ranging experiences, from theater to painting, sculpture and engraving, photography and installation, which Sara Montani has pursued and achieved even during her teaching years - giving real meaning to the term "art education chair" - have not distracted the painter and set designer from her deeper inner self.

Her canvases contain fossil-like reminiscences, mother-of-pearl reworkings of artifacts that gain importance from their research, not only semantic but also eschatological. For a few years, she has been interested in the concept of monoprint and monotype: by exploring the effects of these techniques, she creates unique works through inking and chromaticity. She is also involved in creating collagraphy with unusual matrices, starting from real objects, fabrics and lace to capture impressions of life.

From these experiments, modulated surfaces and unexplored geographies emerge, reinforcing the concept of difference offered by creativity: dreams intertwine with the unthinkable, fantasy flies with theatrical gestures, and the material is bent to the will to narrate. The material doesn't matter; the emotion does.
