I paint what gets left underneath.
About me
I paint human figures the way I experience emotional truth. Not fully visible. Not clearly resolved. Present, but not defined.
My figures are not portraits of specific people. They are vessels. What I am trying to hold inside them is the kind of experience that doesn't fit into straight lines. The weight of transformation. The residue of things that were survived rather than just overcome.
Fire-colored grounds. Red, burnt orange, sienna, cut by teal and shadow. The warmth is real but it costs something. Faces carry precision where the body dissolves. Across the skin and ground, my own handwriting. Words chosen because the figure itself could not say them.
I work in acrylics, pastels, and oil pastels. I layer, overpaint, let go. I find the image by not protecting it too much. The unfinished quality is not incomplete. It is honest. A figure that holds its full weight without explanation is more real to me than one that resolves neatly.
I am drawn to the strength that comes from having been marked by something. Scars not as what you overcome, but as what you become. Most people edit that out. I paint it in.
This work is for people who don't need everything explained. Who prefer to be confronted with a feeling rather than told what to think. Who know the difference between being confirmed and being validated.
