Shipping and Wrapping Guidelines

Ordered Artwork can travel many thousands of miles to reach Customer. Packing your Artworks carefully and neatly will ensure that Customers receive them in perfect condition- ready to be enjoyed!

By using the right packing techniques and good packaging materials, you can:

  1. Avoid damage or delays to your orders when shipping;
  2. Avoid request for refunds due to damaged products reported by buyers;
  3. Achieve more positive reviews and higher buyer satisfaction when your products are received in perfect condition.

We also invite Sellers to think green:

  • Reduce the content of hazardous substances and materials in wrapping and packaging materials used;
  • Give preference to reusable or recoverable packaging types;
  • Biodegradable packaging is highly recommended.

FRAMED PAINTINGS

We suggest using heavy duty cardboard boxes where possible to keep shipping costs competitive.

  • Find a box or build a crate with sufficient room to fit the artwork with few cm of space on each side.
  • Wrap the work in archival quality glassine paper or acid free tissue paper. Plastic covering can be used for further protection against moisture.
  • Wrap the artwork in at least two layers of bubble wrap (with the bubbles facing outwards) and secure with tape. For framed artworks, foam corners are advisable to prevent damage.
  • Place foam layers surrounding the piece and include additional packaging material if needed to ensure a snug fit within the box, with no movement possible.
  • Glazed work is particularly fragile and susceptible to damage in transit. If you are listing glazed work on the website, do take extra care when packing and place safety film over the glass to protect the artwork should the glass shatter during transit.
  • Use strong wide packing tape to seal the parcel.
  • Label the package clearly

We also recommend that any particularly valuable, large or fragile pieces are shipped in a custom-made crate.

ARTWORKS ON PAPER — SHIPPED ROLLED

We suggest that you ship artwork on paper rolled in a tube where it is possible - it is cost effective and safe.

  • Select the appropriate tube size. The tube should always be a minimum of 2mm thick and approximately 10cm longer than the shortest edge of the artwork when flat.
  • Wrap the artwork in archival quality glassine paper or archival quality acid-free tissue paper to protect against moisture. Fold any excess paper at the bottom of the print upwards and press down so the bottom edge of the print rests nicely within the fold. You may wish to cover the piece with plastic for added protection.
  • To create the initial bend in the work, roll the print gently around the mailing tube a few times. This will prevent permanent creasing of the paper and eases the print into a roll. Then carefully roll the print to a diameter slightly smaller than that of your mailing tube.
  • Insert the rolled print gently into the mailing tube, ensure a buffer preventing movement during shipping.
  • Fill any spaces at the ends with packing material, taking care not to crush the edges of the artwork.
  • Top the tube with its end cap, and be sure to secure the caps on both ends with sturdy tape to ensure they do not come off during shipment.
  • Label the package clearly

ARTWORKS ON PAPER — SHIPPED FLAT ONLY

If it is wiser to ship Artwork flat packed, use reinforced envelope to help ensure safe delivery.

  • Select an appropriately sized reinforced envelope.
  • Add corner protectors. Buy them or we advise to create them yourself: get a square piece of paper/acid free tissue paper, adjust the scale according to the size of your work and fold it in half to create a triangle, then in half again.
  • Place two pieces of stiff cardboard on either side of the artwork, taping both sides together.
  • Place two or more pieces of firm cardboard on either side of the work and tape both sides together.
  • Fully wrap the piece in a thick layer of bubble wrap.
  • Surround the bubble wrap parcel with two pieces of corrugated cardboard to create an outer cover. Ensure that edges of both pieces are securely taped together with no gaps.
  • Label the package clearly.

Please feel free to provide unwrapping instructions for the client as well as re-wrapping instructions in case of return for any type of packaging used.
