Radiolarians are tiny unicellular, ray-finned animals that live planktonically in the sea and form beautiful, highly complex inner skeletons made of silica. There are round and cap-shaped ones. Completely fascinated by the lithographs in Haeckel's book "Kunstformen der Natur" (1904), I was seized by the desire to translate one of the most beautiful, Alacorys, with its baroque, temple-like architecture - in harmonious proportions and 5-ray symmetry - three-dimensionally into stone. More massive, of course, but without losing its charisma and harmonious geometry.
