The artwork is inspired by the artist's former horse, which she was compelled to sell in 2007. Yakky and Irene shared five incredibly challenging years, during which Irene (then a teenager) was abused by a trusted man very close to her. The piece originated when the artist embarked on a quest to find her former horse, a search that unfortunately proved unsuccessful. Irene decided to create this portrait to speak about her horse, ensuring he is never forgotten, and the injustice he and Irene endured will always be remembered.
