The painting is an expression of the transformational power of mourning I have experienced. In modern society we associate crying with weakness or being broken, while in my experience it takes courage to face the painful emotions and the process does make you stronger. The canva has been cut trough in the moment of self-hatred. Than fixed -inspired by the Japanese art kintsukuroi "golden repair" (as a philosophy, it treats breakage and repair as part of the history of an object, rather than something to disguise - source - Wikipedia).
