Hungary
Born into a well known gypsy musician family in Budapest, Noémi emigrated to Canada in 1981 with her mother, father and twin brother, where she spent most of her life. She completed her formal training in the Fine Arts program of Toronto’s Central Technical School between the years of 1994-1997, during which time she studied under painter Gerry Michael and sculptor Richard McNeill and received various academic awards for her outstanding achievements in the field of sculpture and drawing. She began his artistic career as a gallery director in the heart of downtown Toronto's arts and culture district before enrolling at the International Academy of Design where he graduated with a diploma in graphic design. Following school, she worked professionally as a graphic designer for nearly two decades, while in her spare time she created digital photo composite works as a personal creative project. From 2010 for 10 years her creative expressions were realized almost exclusively through her "The Thumbs" drawing series, consisting of hundreds of ink drawings on paper. From 2008 to 2014, she lived alternately between Toronto and Budapest with her son, before returning to her roots in 2020 to Hungary for the long term, ceasing her long-running career in graphic design and decidedly committing herself exclusively to her art from then onward. In the short time since her recent return home, she has been continuously creating and regularly exhibiting her works in Hungary. At present, she is developing her art to transition from drawing to painting. Currently she is working on her new "EGO" painting series, in support of which she has received a creative grant from the Hungarian National Cultural Foundation, NKA, to complete this exciting new body of work.
