ILONA ROMULE

Artist Profile. Ilona Romule was born in Riga (Latvia) in artists’ family and has worked in the field of Ceramics since graduation from Latvian Art Academy in 1985 (MFA in Ceramics). Ilona works as a freelance artist at her studio in Riga and in International Ceramics Studio in Kecskemet (Hungary) and in China. Mostly working with high temperature porcelain. During a 30 years career, Ilona has held 28 solo shows, over 50 International Juried Competitions, over 30 group exhibitions, winning 10 awards, including GRAND PRIZE at “6th International Small Teapot Competition”, Pomona Ceramics Museum, CA, USA (2014); GOLDEN Prize at the 1st World Ceramic Teapot Art Competition, Yixing, China (2019) Ilona’s works are housed in numerous International Collections of Ceramic Art including: International Ceramic Collection in ICS, Kecskemet, Hungary; Taipei County Ceramics Museum, Taiwan; Icheon World Ceramic Exposition Foundation, Korea; Riga’s Design and Applied Art Museum, Latvia; Riga’s Porcelain Museum, Latvia; The International Ceramics Museum FLICAM, Fuping, China; Kennedy Museum of Art, Athens, Ohio, USA; Taoxichuan and JCI International Collections, Jingdezhen, China; Yixing, Longchan and Shangyu Ceramics Museums’ Collections, China; Art Ichol Center, Maihar, India. To date Ilona has given over 60 presentations and lectures relating to her own practice and international experience she got traveling and taking part at International Symposia, Residences and Ceramic Conferences. She has been leading Plaster mold making, Lithophane and China painting workshops at Universities and Art Centers in Latvia, Hungary, USA, China, Australia, Turkey, Israel, Taiwan, Bali, New Zealand, India.
