Jahid Apu is a Bangladesh-born documentary photographer and visual storyteller who is avidly drawn to the art of photographing life's essences. Through his viewfinder, he articulates life's experiences, brings the untold stories of the voiceless to the forefront, gives meaning, and comprehends his life as profoundly as possible. He was born in 1997 and raised in Dhaka. His early years were marked by a preoccupation with painting. Later in life, this obsession influenced his artistic perspective and aesthetic visual approach. Seeing the painting canvas through the camera's viewfinder was an enriching journey for him. His practice of travel and documentary photography began in 2016. He started his professional career as a photojournalist the following year and was soon a contributor to Solent News in the UK. He graduated from the Institute of Science and Technology with a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science and Engineering with Merit. Currently, he is pursuing his Postgraduate Diploma in Documentary Photography at Alliance Française de Dhaka. At age 26, he has already received more than 40+ prestigious international photography awards. More than 30 different countries around the world have exhibited his photographs. Many major international outlets, including the Guardian and BBC, have published his work. Being a native Bangladeshi, Jahid has extensive work experience there. Exploring aspects of various cultures and their socio-political-economic issues is his interest. As part of his work for non-profit organizations, he completed many projects with UNESCO, FAO, and USAID.
