Jane Clatworthy is a British abstract painter who works in oil and cold wax as well as other mixed media. Jane is based in Gloucestershire where she runs a busy studio pursuing her own artistic practice full – time. She grew up in an artistic family, her father, Len Clatworthy, was a sculptor. Jane graduated from Cheltenham Art School in 1989. She began her career as a free lance community artist, working with vulnerable and disenfranchised groups. This led on to work creating giant carnival figures. In 2017 once her children, who she had brought up single handedly, had grown, she set up her painting studio, and has enjoyed great success, gaining a high commendation in the RSBA Open in 2020 and winning the international Wing award. Clients love her paintings. She is a great colourist, and loses herself in mark-making, resulting in truly dynamic, abstract paintings as well as occasional lyrical riffs on landscape. These paintings show great confidence, and are fast growing in popularity – Her work sold out on The Bowie Gallery stand at Fresh art fair , Cheltenham in 2021. Mediums graphite, pigment sticks and oil and cold wax They are created on sturdy cradled panels – her physical engagement with the materials is intrinsic to the paintings.
