(The Crowood Press Ltd) “During the course of her thirty-year career, Volk’s sculpture has been extremely varied. She usually works in series exploring a particular line of enquiry. Once an investigation has run its course, she substitutes it for a new set of conceptual problems. For this reason, Volk’s output has taken the form of sculpted heads, spherical and ovoid-shaped sculpture, wall reliefs, towers, and slabs. Yet, these shifts in practice are nothing more than a new iteration of a fundamental question: what is the expressive potential of line, tone, colour, mass and rhythm?
