Sayoko Osada

I am a Japanese multidisciplinary artist, director, and designer, born in Tokyo, based in New York. In my emerging practice with narrative filmmaking and mixed media, I explore themes of identities, impermanence, emotions, languages, and social margins. Influenced by my personal experiences, from growing up as an immigrant during teenage years in the American Midwest to living through family bankruptcy and climate disasters upclose, my work intimately depicts transitional moments within human experiences and natural phenomena. I draw inspiration from a variety of sources, including Japanese narrative arts, American structural films, and sacred art.
