This piece illustrates my struggle with finding a place for myself in various aspects of society. Since leaving Nigeria, to spending several years in the USA and even now within the UK and online, I find myself adapting my personality within different spaces in order to survive. This phenomenon known as code-switching which I found occurs in a large number of Africans is a sort of adaptation on a survival mechanism ingrained within my DNA due to generational trauma.
