Camilla M. Mecagni is an artist with dual citizenship in Italy and the United States. She graduated in 2018 magna cum laude with a BA in art history and photography from the Instituto Lorenzo de’ Medici and Marist College, in Florence, IT. In the summer of 2023, she graduated from Parsons School of Design, in New York City, with an MFA in photography. Primarily, her work is in the medium of photography. The basis of her work is a seventeen-year project, started in 2006, using black and white and color 35mm narratives that concentrate on my paternal grandparents' microcosmic trauma of post-World War II Italian patriarical normalities enforced by Catholicism and political unrest. This long-term project propelled her to explore the current political rise of the global far-right movements, especially within Italian neofascism dictating social identities, gender norms, and, overall, divisiveness. The Anthropocene is a great influence on her recent work to enable her to produce self-portraits, to specifically explore rape culture within the Anthropocene and the links to Italian Renaissance art. Mecagni’s work seeks to prove that the female human body is multifaceted in its complexities, sexual, and provocative when provoked. Her work is a product of trying to reclaim myself, outside of myself, within photographs. Mecagni has been a fashion photojournalist for clients including Prada, T-Magazine, and Ferragamo and has covered multiple fashion weeks since 2017. She currently resides and works between Milan and New York City.
