New focus

I'm changing directions in my practice. I love working on nudes, but I need a change. So I'm focusing on smaller pieces, more details and a lighter feeling. Kinda loving it!

Reduction, Refining in Abstract. How far can I go?

I’m fascinated by minimalist abstract paintings.

And my own intention more and more is to experiment in refining, reducing my paintings while clearly retaining a dynamic of movement, synthesis and most importantly emotional impact. That involves “empty” space as a means of amplifying the overall potency.

This is one of my paintings from my current ABSENCES series.

Who is Corre-Pé? Contemporary Social Artist

José Pereira Corre-Pé, is a Portuguese Contemporary Social Artist.

I've been painting since I was a teenager. Back then, I wasn't thinking about exhibitions, galleries or becoming a professional artist. I painted simply because it was the most natural way to express myself. Until 1999/2000, I created hundreds of paintings, moving through different styles without realising that I was actually searching for my own visual language.

In 2000, I held my first exhibition in a certified gallery. Shortly afterwards, I stepped away from painting. For about 17 years, life took me in other directions. I never stopped painting completely, but new works only appeared occasionally, whenever I felt they needed to.

At the end of 2023, I returned to my studio without a plan and without the intention of starting over. I simply felt the need to paint again. Ironically, it was only when I stopped searching for a visual language that I found one. Almost by accident, I discovered the way of painting that finally felt like my own.

Every painting begins the same way: I write first. Words, notes, questions and fragments of ideas. Only then do I pick up a brush. My paintings are not illustrations of what I've written. They begin where words are no longer enough.

Today, the human figure is at the heart of my work. I'm not interested in realistic representation. I'm interested in identity, memory, contradictions, human relationships and the ways society shapes us.

I've never felt the need to follow trends or belong to a particular movement. I'd rather build my own path. That's why I describe my practice as Contemporary Social Art. I believe painting isn't there to provide easy answers, but to raise questions, encourage reflection and open conversations.

I joined FOLLOW.ART to connect with artists, curators, galleries and collectors, discover new perspectives and share my journey with people who believe that art is still a powerful way of understanding the world.

VENUE request for VAA OpenSpaces 2026

Hello other artists, art exhibition venues!

This year I am participating in Visual Artists Association (VAA) OpenSpaces. As I live in the countryside I am looking for a suitable LONDON VENUE , ideally West/central and not East. A venue that loves abstract (sacred) geometry art.

The digital map goes live in September so venues need to be confirmed by August 21st.

OpenSpaces is global initiative organised by the VAA and supported by many artists, and FOLLOW.ART. It is a worldwide art community event.

2-28 November and exhibitions can participate for part of all of that time.

Attached an image of a typical artwork. My medium is acrylic on canvas. Subject matter is abstract sacred geometry.

Beyond the white cube: join our talk with VAA OpenSpaces

Dear members,

We're happy to partner with VAA OpenSpaces, a global art trail where artists take over everyday venues and make art part of daily life.

On 25 July at 13:00 (BST), join us for a talk with OpenSpaces partner venues to look at what happens when exhibitions move into cafés, offices, community spaces and other places people pass through and gather in.

For artists who are curious about showing work outside traditional gallery walls, this is a good place to start.

Symbioses: Living Together

A new group exhibition of works under the theme of connectedness and mutual dependance, across painting, sculpture, film and more. Open for a month at ArtWorks East gallery in London, with a Private View on Friday the 26th of June, with a full timetable of different events being put on, including a 'meet the artists' evening.
