THREE VIEWS, ONE FIGURE

La Fille au bord du lac, Dos nu and Grain de beauté belong to a series exploring the same figure from different viewpoints.

What interests me is how a simple change of perspective transforms our perception of the body and its relationship with space.

Seen from above, the figure becomes part of the composition. Water, stone, vegetation and the geometry of the body share the same pictorial space.

From one painting to another, the posture, distance and scale change, while the same intimate moment remains.

This relationship between human posture and space lies at the heart of my work.

Art on receipts

I paint on receipts.

Not because I find them beautiful, but because I find them incredibly honest.

A receipt is a tiny record of our everyday life. It tells us what we bought, where we were, what we needed, what we wanted — and, increasingly, how much it costs simply to live.

I started collecting receipts almost without thinking. Then I began painting on them.

Bright colours, imaginary characters and playful worlds started appearing over lists of groceries, meals, taxis, pharmacies and ordinary expenses. I became fascinated by this contradiction: something joyful and imaginary growing over something brutally real.

In works such as One Month in New York, 10 Days in Maui and Kapibara Goes Grocery Shopping, the receipt is not simply a surface. It becomes part of the story.

One Month in New York was created using the receipts I collected during a month spent in the city. Together, they became a sort of accidental diary: not a diary of thoughts or photographs, but of prices, necessities, small pleasures and everyday choices.

I paint over these fragments without completely hiding them. I want the numbers, words and traces of daily life to remain visible beneath the painted world.

There is also a social question behind these works. We talk constantly about consumption, but perhaps less often about the increasing cost of simply existing: eating, moving, having a home, experiencing a city.

I use colour, humour and imaginary characters because I don’t want to illustrate this reality literally. I prefer to create a tension between lightness and seriousness.

A receipt is designed to be thrown away.

By painting on it, I give it another life — and perhaps another meaning.

I am getting ready to meet and chat to people who have come to hear me talk about my work which is currently showing at Earth Matters, at The Royal Botanic Garden, Edinburgh. I've just created my Follow art card and think it will be really useful as a way to share my details with those who want to find out more about my work. It is going to be a great event with music, dj's, workshops and food trucks, a great way to see Edinburgh Botanics after hours.

Ibn Sina (Avicenna) (980-1037 CE)*: A Persian polymath, Ibn Sina made significant contributions to medicine, philosophy, and science. His philosophical system integrated Aristotelian philosophy with Neoplatonic thought and Islamic theology. “The Canon of Medicine” was a standard medical text for centuries in both the East and West.

New focus

I'm changing directions in my practice. I love working on nudes, but I need a change. So I'm focusing on smaller pieces, more details and a lighter feeling. Kinda loving it!

Reduction, Refining in Abstract. How far can I go?

I’m fascinated by minimalist abstract paintings.

And my own intention more and more is to experiment in refining, reducing my paintings while clearly retaining a dynamic of movement, synthesis and most importantly emotional impact. That involves “empty” space as a means of amplifying the overall potency.

This is one of my paintings from my current ABSENCES series.

Who is Corre-Pé? Contemporary Social Artist

José Pereira Corre-Pé, is a Portuguese Contemporary Social Artist.

I've been painting since I was a teenager. Back then, I wasn't thinking about exhibitions, galleries or becoming a professional artist. I painted simply because it was the most natural way to express myself. Until 1999/2000, I created hundreds of paintings, moving through different styles without realising that I was actually searching for my own visual language.

In 2000, I held my first exhibition in a certified gallery. Shortly afterwards, I stepped away from painting. For about 17 years, life took me in other directions. I never stopped painting completely, but new works only appeared occasionally, whenever I felt they needed to.

At the end of 2023, I returned to my studio without a plan and without the intention of starting over. I simply felt the need to paint again. Ironically, it was only when I stopped searching for a visual language that I found one. Almost by accident, I discovered the way of painting that finally felt like my own.

Every painting begins the same way: I write first. Words, notes, questions and fragments of ideas. Only then do I pick up a brush. My paintings are not illustrations of what I've written. They begin where words are no longer enough.

Today, the human figure is at the heart of my work. I'm not interested in realistic representation. I'm interested in identity, memory, contradictions, human relationships and the ways society shapes us.

I've never felt the need to follow trends or belong to a particular movement. I'd rather build my own path. That's why I describe my practice as Contemporary Social Art. I believe painting isn't there to provide easy answers, but to raise questions, encourage reflection and open conversations.

I joined FOLLOW.ART to connect with artists, curators, galleries and collectors, discover new perspectives and share my journey with people who believe that art is still a powerful way of understanding the world.

VENUE request for VAA OpenSpaces 2026

Hello other artists, art exhibition venues!

This year I am participating in Visual Artists Association (VAA) OpenSpaces. As I live in the countryside I am looking for a suitable LONDON VENUE , ideally West/central and not East. A venue that loves abstract (sacred) geometry art.

The digital map goes live in September so venues need to be confirmed by August 21st.

OpenSpaces is global initiative organised by the VAA and supported by many artists, and FOLLOW.ART. It is a worldwide art community event.

2-28 November and exhibitions can participate for part of all of that time.

Attached an image of a typical artwork. My medium is acrylic on canvas. Subject matter is abstract sacred geometry.
